Tip of the Day: Creating R:BASE/Oterro ODBC Data Sources in Windows 8 Pro
Product: R:BASE eXtreme 9.5 (32/64), Oterro 9.5 (32/64)
Build..: 9.5.2.11115 or higher www.rupdates.com
Section: ODBC, SQL Data Source, DSN
To create a data source, you must first install the corresponding ODBC
driver. When you install R:BASE or Oterro, the installer loads the ODBC
driver necessary for connecting to R:BASE databases.
01.
To create a data source name (DSN) in Windows 8 Pro, use the "ODBC Data
Sources (32-bit)" program, located within the "Administrative Tools"
section of the Windows Control Panel.

02.
Within the ODBC Data Source Administrator, the list of R:BASE/Oterro ODBC
drivers can be reviewed by selecting the "Drivers" tab.

03.
Based upon the requirements for the data source, a User DSN or System DSN
will be created. In these steps, a System DSN will be created. Select the
"System DSN" tab, then click the "Add..." button.
04.
The next step is to select the database driver. In this example the R:BASE
eXtreme 9.5 (64) driver is being selected. Once selected, click the "Finish"
button.

05.
The "R:BASE eXtreme 9.5 (64) ODBC Data Source Setup" screen is displayed
where the name, path and description fields are available. In some cases,
you will need to restrict the name of the Data Source if your development
environment does not allow certain characters. The "Full Path of Data
Source" field must list the path and name of the .RX1 database file. For
9.5 (32), the name of the .RB1 database file must be defined. Press "OK"
when complete.

The new System DSN will be listed within the ODBC Data Source Administrator
window.
