Hi Alastair

Both of Pro & Ultimate allow you to download a free virtual machine that runs
within the program with a copy, also free, of XP Pro that allows you to run
many programs that will not run under Win 7, even in emulation mode. I run
RBDOS 9.5 in this space.

Regards

Thanks, Javier,

I’ve had a look at both the upgrade versions available, Pro & Ultimate, and
compared the advertised advantages.

To be honest, there is nothing shown that would help me as a home user.
Nevertheless, I take your point that the more advanced versions may perform
better than the “cheapo” one.

If the cost of upgrading was minimal I might have considered it worthwhile but
it’s a third of what I paid for the computer so I think I’m better off to
replace my PC in the future rather than upgrade now. I’ll have to try using
Windows Media Player instead of iTunes whilst I’m using R:Base.

Regards,

Alastair.

Alastair,

I have always had issues with the “Home” versions of Windows. Windows 7
actually comes with all version pre-installed, and only one of them activated;
in your case the “Home” version.

It is very easy to upgrade to the “Pro” version, the only version IMHO that
works well and has many added features for office work. You simply buy an
upgrade “key” from Microsoft or a retailer and it takes just a few minutes to
do it.

The system work much better and you don’t have to re-install applications. This
is what I did to may last two laptops and could not be happier.

One thing to add: I’m using Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP 1.

It came pre-installed with the Dell PC I bought a few years back – I wish it
hadn’t as it seems to have produced more problems than ever.

Alastair.

Thanks, Mike & Dennis.

That explanation, Mike, fits pretty well what I am experiencing in a way but
R:Base is _my_ foreground window as that’s where I’m aware that I’m working –
if you see what I mean.

What doesn’t fit is that in R:Base 9.1 it didn’t happen BUT iTunes has had many
minor upgrades so iTunes may have changed since I moved to R:Base 9.5. (I also
upgraded to v11 and then went back to v10 so that may have made a difference
somehow.)

One other thing that I think is true but I’m not sure that it is so every time
is that if iTunes is minimised the keystrokes seem to remain with R:Base.

I’ll put it down to just another of those weird things computers do that I’ll
never understand,

Regards,

Alastair.

Some application activities promote themselves to the foreground (eg:
outlook express when compacting folders) without their main window being
seen which would enable their process to capture keystrokes.

Have you got any hotkeys set up in itunes?
This is a stab in the dark but it is the only reason I can see that another
app would capture rbase keystrokes.

It really wouldn't have anything to to with RBase.

The only reason ITunes would be effected is its' message loop is catching
the keyboard input.

Hi all,

Just a stab in the dark this one - has anybody had any occasions when
pressing enter or a function key from a form (uncompiled or anything).

Sometimes iTunes either restarts the track it's playing or goes back to the
first track.

I'm not quite sure exactly yet what's happening but before I do more digging
I thought I would see if anybody else has already been there.

R:Base v9.5 (32) latest & iTunes v10.7 (yes, I know that's not the latest
but I like it better than v11).

Thanks & regards,
Alastair.
