Gary: I like Win8 lots more than Win7. The only problem with Win8 is if
you're running DOS. I sympathize with the RMail thing. I have one client
with tons of RMail code in 7.6, mission critical stuff, has to be literally a
hundred places where he's sending out emails. And all of it would have to be
rewritten for the new RMail. He's stamping his feet.... I didn't write the
original code for this app, but it would have been easier if there would have
been one general "Send an RMail" type of program written that accepted a bunch
of passed-in parameters. Then in theory you could upgrade to a new version of
RMail and have to change only one program assuming the passed-in parameters
would still be work. So from now on, I'm going to program to use this method.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Operating Systems/RBase 7.6

I have a small client who is currently running the 7.6 latest version. They
use RMail 2.6 and they are running the program on Vista.

There are several issues that seem to plague programs that run on Vista. Most
generally programs lock up and require the system to reboot to set the system
"straight". This is becoming frustrating for the client.

The purpose of this email is to gather some insight on stability and success
with operating systems and RBase. I am not a system guy so I do not know which
is better for operational issues. Which would you choose...XP,Vista,Win7 or
Win8. This is a very small operation and the customer is looking for stability
as much as anything. He is using RMail 2.6 as well. RMail is the current
backbone of his communication and updating of information that is sent out.

We are further discussing the move from 7.6 to 9.5. This will be a big jump
for him and his operation. Most of the program should work but my guess the
RMail portion will have to be completely re-written.

Any insights would be helpful.

Thanks
Gary
