Just to avoid running the battery down so fast. Now, If you have a solid state drive, that is not an issue.

Power settings! This goes in my Windows 8 notes... I went into power settings / change plan settings / change advanced power settings. In the list of devices, I chose "hard disk" and there's an option for "turn off hard disk after". An option for both battery and hard drive; battery was set to 10 minutes, plugged in to 20 minutes. I changed then both to "never". We'll see if that helps. Do you see a reason why I should keep a time limit on battery? Thanks again! Normally if I wait a few seconds after I wiggle the mouse or press the shift key, the application snaps right back. You might want to check the power settings and make sure that the hard disk is not set up to stop after a few minutes idling. My laptop is setup to ignore all power saving features when plugged in but I still get the message; I just have not taken the time to research the issue further since it has been (so far) only a minor annoyance. I have a lone laptop, no network here. This has been messing me up when I'm working with temp tables, etc. I'm assuming this is a windows 8 setting that I'm missing? (No rbase timeout command is present) Karen
