"Before Design" does not run when you *use* a form. It runs only when you
open the form to *design* the form. You could have put that SET VAR in the
"On Before Start" EEP, and it would have worked. Typically, the "Before
Design" eep is used to predefine variables and create any temporary tables
you will need while you are working on the form.

The "Dynamic" caption becomes useful when you want the caption to change
while the form is up. For example, if a user clicks on a customer in a
variable list, Customer identifying information could become the new form
caption.
