It may be sys_col_name. If vcolcount = 0 then col does not exist

Try

Select count(*) into vcolcount Indic iv1 from sys_colums where syscolumn =
.vcol

Do the same for table from sys_tables

I an update routine to update my database and want to know if there is a way to
check if a column and/or table exists, so I can include this in my updating
routine. I know chkfile will check for a file but is there something similar
for table or column
