While in Data Designer (RBDefine), after dropping the INDEX, make sure
to save the table and close the Data designer. Then, open the designer,
add the column, save the table, add the INDEX and then close the data
designer. See how that goes.

Alternatively, you can use the following command at the R> prompt and
see what you get.

SET MESSAGES ON
SET ERROR MESSAGES ON
ALTER TABLE tablename ADD COLUMN columnname datatype

If all fails, send me the database/table schema and I will tell you
what is wrong with your table.
