Thanks for all your responses. Sometimes understanding how this stuff works is like being back in an advanced stat class and seeing multiple regression analysis for the first time. Kind of overwhelming, but having a user group like RBASE-L and people like you willing to provide answers/suggestions helps point a way. It’s been that way since I first started our project with 7.1. What a group! Now I just have to play with all your ideas to learn more. And I was going to install cabinets today.

I'm with Buddy on this one. It's been ages (pre-7.6) since I've worried about what the cfg file "user" is. To me it's one of the most freeing things about the newer versions of RBase -- that we no longer have to worry about having unique user names in a cfg file. RBTI uses individual licensing to know who is connected to the database, it no longer counts unique "user" connections nor bumps off a user with a duplicate cfg name like back in 6.5 days. I've changed all converted apps to use CVAL('NetUser') to know who's connected, not CVAL('user'). As a matter of fact, I don't think I've touched a cfg file since 6.5 days.... My startup file has all the global settings, and if there's individual settings it's kept in a table by NetUser.

Tom
I wouldn't use the USER from the cfg file. I find it to be unreliable
because if one cannot be found R:Base will create one and now you may have
another USER. Your best bet would be to use (CVAL('NETUSER')). This would
give you the individual logged into the PC.

Subject: [RBASE-L] - Multi user and Config Name User

We have several questions related to our compiled database (RBaseX
Enterprise). RbaseX.dat is the file used to build ElmCityDatabase.exe. The
Rbase engine is embedded along with one theme (Longhorn) used for messages.
RBengine.cfg is on the server where the exe is located. The current config
file has an item called Name : USER 20151129130838. How is this user ID
used? If four users get on our system through the exe on the server, they
would all use that config file which has that USER ID. Does this user ID
apply the same to all of the users so that user ID is used four times? Or
are each user tracked through other means like the User Privileges section?
I have not used the Privileges at all, which can explain some problems we
have had with unannounced shutdowns. The database is simply great in single
user. In multi it works well, but I keep finding little tweaks I missed.
This is just the next item that has come up. Thanks.
