G'day,
I have very recently acquired the services of a competent VB programmer.
Twice in the last fortnight a prospective client has asked me for some
document management facility within BizMan so I wrote the R:Base portion
and Robert wrote the VB portion of an add-on module to BizMan that allows
the user to go to a Person, Organization or Job record, click on a button
and launch the VB app.
The R:Base side creates a file containing the ID and prefix (J, O or P) that
the VB app reads. The VB app also reads the default document directory
from an ini file then finds all the files in the default directory that
contain the
prefix and ID, displays them in a list from which the user can double click
which launches the native app for that document extension.
To restrict the displayed files the list form also has to the side a list
of the
file extensions. When the user clicks on the file extension the displayed
docs are restricted to files with that extension.
There is also a directory search button so that if the document has been
archived the user can change directory and search the archive for files
related to that Person, Organization or Job.
We have designed and he has constructed the VB app so that it can be
used from a program other than BizMan. All the requirements are written
to ini and cfg files referenced by the VB app.
We are looking to integrate the storage of emails so that BizMan (and a
document directory) can be the complete and sole repository of all data
required by a small to medium sized business with easy access to all
data.
If this module would be of interest to anyone else please drop me a private
email.
Warmest regards,
Tom Grimshaw
