I'm using the same version of RB and tried it. Everything works fine. You
may want to try and reload your database and try it again.

Subject: auto numbering in table causes windows error
I'm using R:Base 6.5++ build 1.84hx. I'm
attempting to create an autonum id number H00001234 during
the creation of a table definition. When I define the
first field in the table called ID and tell it to autonum
and set the format [H]00000000, when I save the table
windows gives me a general proctection error. The data
type of id is text 9.
I have an old database that was tranferred to
windows where this works fine. Has anyone else experienced
this or am I just missing something, besides some gray
matter?
