Or, maybe what her instructor MEANT was that meaningless, arbitrarily 
generated id numbers was a good thing (which is also debatable, to 
those strong in theory and short in practicality), and the word "random" 
was misapplied. 

Random means non-sequitor to my teenager, as in "Wow. That was 
random."
