But I didn't actually press '[Esc]', or use Exit/Discard & Exit tied to a
button!
What I don't get is that a simple command file with my forementioned form
etc. shows 
(lastkey(0)) = '[Enter]', but in my "actual" command file, (lastkey(0))
works out to '[Esc]'..same form, same eep..

Charles,

Yes, during TRACE, that is normal behavior. 

Using 6.5+ for Windows, during the TRACE, pressing 
'[Esc]' will abort the Interactive Debugger. 

You can also interrupt the Interactive Debugger at 
specific points as the command file is processed by 
setting up breakpoints and break variables.
