I discovered that after an NT workstation runs QuickBooks 2000, a LOT 
of CPU cycles get consumed after that by a "task" visible in the task 
manager named "qbdagent.exe" -- which may be exploring the Intuit 
web page for new promotional tidbits to show on QuickBooks screens.  

Killing the qbdagent.exe task has eliminated a lot of those delays in 
DOS programs.
