G'day,
To those interested (now or in the future) in knowing whether or not you can
run an R:BASE database from a CD I thought I'd let you know the results of
my tests.
Nope, not yet.
On reading of the help on SCRATCH it states that it is used for determining
to what directory the temp files are written when doing sorts but R:BASE
needs to write a temp file on starting up that is not governed by the SCRATCH
setting.
I have put in an enhancement request to RBTI to have the SCRATCH setting
apply to the temp file created on startup - there may be additional issues
about which I know not but I will await the response from RBTI.
I thought I would mention this so if anyone has a reason unknown to me why
they would NOT want the start up temp file written to the same directory as
the sort files they might communicate this to RBTI/RDCC.
Apparently my programmer says Access also writes a file to the db home
directory when it fires up so we are having to do it in C++ to meet the
deadline.
Warmest regards,
Tom Grimshaw
