Alastair,

        I have used both methods at my site and either 
one works fine here.  I have reports that have 15-20 
lookups and reports that run off of views.   I've never 
noticed any difference in either method.  You just might 
want to pay a little attention to how the report is being 
sorted and you index structure on your tables.
