  We used to have that problem as well and solved
it with a three pronged approach.  First, and
probably most obvious, is to verify you have all
the current service paks for all the software. 
Second, consistent periodic use of a good NT
defragmenter.  We use the freeware version of
Disk Keeper Lite.  Third, we set up a cron file
that would touch each of our drives and databases
every 10 minutes.  This will not allow the DB
connections to expire nor will it allow any
drives to go into the energy saving 'sleep' mode.
  By setting LOGLEVEL=3 we were able to determine
that every time our system hung up, it was
happening as tango was attempting to establish a
connection with a database.  As a 'just in case',
we also incorporated a daily stop-restart of the
tango service.
  Not sure this will help with your problem, but
our system has not hung in nearly two years now.
