Hello all!
Just finished reding the 7/23 issue of TIME, which has a feature
on innovative new marketers.
A guy named Bill Gross started a company that does Web searches.
The website that pays the most money to him gets listed first
in the web search! He justifies this as saying that those companies
who can afford the most money are probably the best sites for that
search criteria.
Here's the kicker. His own seach site is "GoTo". But you don't
know which other popular search sites also use his company.
TIME lists these search sites as using his "highest bidder" search
criteria: AOL, Alta Vista, Lycos and MSN.
They say that if you seach on "motherhood", Google (my search engine
of choice anyway) would give #1 spot to a nonprofit "Safe Motherhood
Home Page." The first site using his criteria: "Nursing Apparel
and Bras - Free Shipping"
