Thank you Gene, The computer at my church got creamed.  The program that Symantec offered [FixSirc.com] would not even run.  Fortunately, on the instructions it describe the registry keys involved.  Manually, using regedit for DOS I was able to remove the offending registry keys and now everything is well in the neighborhood........
