Ben,
If you haven't, try setting error messages on in your rbase.dat file to
see if something is messed up. I came across something similar
when an app tried to set back/foreground colors the same.
Also, if you were working with your system sounds it seems like
you can set a bell for process completion.... maybe windows is
dinging to tell you RBase finished loading??
Maybe it's the Lateintheday-aug14th virus <g>
