Bill -- that was me <g>.  What I'm trying to get is the transNum, 
that is from the same record as the memberid / max date, 
included. The speed of the above is not too big an issue as there 
would rarely be more than a few hundred records.  On my 500mhz 
machine 300 records return instantly.
