Lee,
Follow these easy steps to make that you are
not doing anything wrong:
01. Launch TGRB2000 (ver 6.5++) for
Windows
02. At the Mighty R> prompt:
SHOW
VERSION
R:BASE 2000 v6.5++ Windows, Build: 1.842xRT03 is the latest
shipping version.
03. CONNECT DBName
04. SHOW
CHAR
Specifically, note the setting for QUOTES
05. Now, let's
create a test file (long file name with spaces)
If the database default
QUOTE SETting is single quote, then:
RBEdit 'Test This
File.TXT'
If th database default QUOTE SETting is double quotes,
then:
RBEdit "Test This File.TXT"
06. While in RBEdit mode, in a
blank document, type something like:
The POWER of LAUNCH command in
TGRB2000 (ver 6.5++) for Windows!
07. Save the file.
Notice the
file name: Test This File.TXT
The file name is 14 characters long +
the three character extension of TXT.
Normally, all .TXT files are
associated with windows Notepad.
08. At the R> prompt,
type:
LAUNCH 'Test This File.TXT'
OR
LAUNCH "Test This
File.TXT"
09. What do you see?
The LAUNCH command started the
Windows Notepad along with the Test This File.TXT to be
edited!
There you have it ...
Make sure to have fun and let us
know your findings.
Very Best Regards,
Razzak.

I noticed, that when opening a "doc" file, it will not
recognize file names that have spaces in them. Example: my word
file.doc (won't open)(spaces between 'my and word' and 'word and
file') but mywordfile.doc (will open)
(no spaces anywhere)
Is this normal? Can spaces be used?
Try:
LAUNCH 'my word
file.doc'
OR
LAUNCH 'C:\My Documents\my word
file.doc'
. Notice the QUOTES around the file name. . Make sure
to use the database default QUOTES SETtings
Enjoy and make sure to
have fun!
Very Best
Regards,
Razzak.
