Dear Tom, I know you are a nice guy and well-meaning but I read your post of that article and your response and think the following may be of help. Most Americans do not see the terrorists as "militants", as does Niva, but as terrorists. Most Americans do not agree with Niva that this country has any duty to satisfy the "legitimate grievances" of terrorists. Most Americans do not find the acceptable response of foreigners, who object to our foreign policy, is to infiltrate our country, murder our citizens and visitors and destroy swathes of our cities. Most Americans would not agree with Niva that, if you are repressed by your government, instead of attacking your own tormentors, it's quite understandable for you to come here to attack us. Most Americans reject Niva's other Great Idea: that we change our policies to address the terrorists' "legitimate grievances" and they won't kill us. It worked in 1938, after all. Apart from the demonstrable errors of fact and grammar, apparent general lack of knowledge and inability to draw logical conclusions, I believe I can assure you that few Americans would consider this article anything but defamatory, perverse and unhelpful at this time. Nicky PS Is Evergreen College the one in Tacoma which invited a convicted murderer of a police officer to address the graduating class of '99?
