Herb,

To continue a little farther with this:

You have 4 files that make up your database. They are named whatever your
database is named with the extensions RB1, RB2, RB3, and RB4. These 4 files
hold everything. The #1 file holds your data dictionary, passwords, counters
and pointers to your data. This is a small critical file that contrls your
database. I make an extra backup copy of it every night and before and after
I make any structure changes. The #2 file holds your data which is stored in
double linked lists. The #3 file holds all of your indexes. The #4 file
holds all of the large binary objects (blobs) which includs your datatypes
varchars, varbits. If you are using the windows version, your forms and
reports also live in the #4 file.

So to back up your database, you just need to have all users disconnect from
the database and then copy the files to another directory.

I sure could use some expert help. So far I have done pretty well with the
whole thing and I'm to the point where I want to back up. I had no problems in
backing up, at the R> prompt, but I don't know where it
