Phil,

On the CD, the read attributes were probably set to read only.  When it 
was copied back to a hard drive, the attributes were preserved in the 
copy.

Use ATTRIB -R at a command prompt, or select all the affected files 
and right-click for properties, and un-check the "read only" check box.
