Ben, I tend to use OPEN RESET even when I don't need the RESET - this sets the cursor 
back to the top of the data set. 

DECLARE c1 CURSOR FOR SELECT whatever
OPEN c1 RESET
FETCH c1 INTO a bunch of variables
WHILE SQLCODE <> 100 THEN
....
