I have long felt that the registry was to inhibit the illegal copying of
programs from one computer to another. Once you could zip up one directory
and unzip it elsewhere, now with registry entries and dll's etc you pretty
well have to follow the installation instructions. I do not support software
piracy but I really don't like the huge registry and the difficulty
uninstalling all of a program. I commonly get a message that some parts
could not be removed - never with a list of the problems, just that there
were problems.
