G'day Alastair,

I have not experienced this problem (must be a first)
and nothing I can think of would cause the problem you
describe. Have you tried it with SET MESSAGES ON and
SET ERROR MESSAGES ON?

Check that the variables are in the correct section.

Do the manifestations you mention above apply if you
exit R:BASE and perform the action as a first after
connecting? (I am looking for unset variables or
variables set to a different data type.)

What do you mean by "click and hold on the green divider line"?
The technique I use is to left mouse click the green line,
let go the click without moving the mouse and while the line
is still highlighted, press the delete key.

1. While coming to grips with Windows report writing
get into the habit of backing up your reports (must
get around to buying Dennis McGrath's R:ARC) prior to
making changes to them.

2. If you have made many changes to a report prior to
making a change you have experienced problems with,
save the report immediately prior to making the change
and if the change goes awry, exit the form without
saving the changes. This should save all your prior
changes and not save the disastrous one.

Good luck.
(If it is any consolation, this version of R:BASE report
writer is much more stable than some earlier Windows
versions over which I lost at least part of my receding
hairline.)

Warmest regards,

Tom Grimshaw
