TTBOMK, the QUALCOLS setting mainly affects UPDATEs or DELETEs.

Personally, I don't know the affects on INSERT INTO ... VALUE/SELECT. 

Please try and see what happens. Your feedback will be greatly 
appreciated. 

Meanwhile, use SET QUALCOLS 2 if_you_know that your application 
mainly updates or deletes data a_row_at_a_time, rather than 
many_rows_at_a_time.
