JM, First, don't touch the machine till you make your attempt to recover the files. Loading a program, running anything or doing a shutdown can overwrite the deleted files and then the story is finished.
You need to use something like Norton Unerase (from a Norton Utilities or SystemWorks CD or a floppy) to attempt to recover the files.
