Is there only one ROW in the second table? If not, then it doesn't matter that there is only one COLUMN that you want to use. It is not just a copy of t1 with an extra COLUMN added. It is in fact "n" copies of t1, one for each ROW in t2.
I don't understand the overall goal of your efforts here. Are you trying to update many rows in t1, or 1 row in t2? What kind of a value are you updating something with?
