A couple of things.

I don't think the DOS install from the CD will work on 2000, I think you 
will have to install on another machine and then copy over the files.

When you make your batch file to start R:base, you need to trick 2000 into 
giving you the memory settings tab under the properties.  It does not give 
it to you for batch files, but does if you make a shorcut to an exe file.  
You want to make your shortcut to an exe and then change it to your batch 
file so you can get in and adjust the memory settings.
