Karen, We now have our app running in two locations, so I have some additional observations to make regarding RBW 6.5++ on W2k Servers and W2k clients.
First, I saw someone else mention replace hubs with switches. I agree wholeheartedly. Make certain all network components are performing properly. Sometimes even the patch cable can cause a slowdown, and if it is the patch cable between your server and your switch, everyone suffers. Second, at our second location we put a dedicated file server in place to hold the database. This machine is a dual-processor Pentium III Xeon running somewhere over 1 gHz. It has a gig of RAM and a RAID5 disk array with about 80 gigs free disk. The OS is installed on a pair of mirrored drives separate from the RAID5 array. One 4 gig partition was set aside on the mirrored drives for a 3.75 gb pagefile. The server is optimized to be a file server and nothing else. The fat clients are all W2k with 128 mb RAM. But we also have 14 thin clients and two RF thin clients talking to a pair of Metaframe XPa servers (also over W2k). The performance at this location is quite acceptable. The difference is that at the first location the database files are sitting on the domain controller. I have a new server sitting there waiting for me to get back to it and create the dedicated file server. Message: do not short change the hardware, server and LAN. It can make a huge difference, and in the long run is very much worth the investment. BTW, the dedicated file server mentioned above was under $10k from Dell. > >I KNOW we have rehashed this a dozen times but how about >one more time?
