You know, I really didn't want to get into this, just as I was returning to the fold, having been a user since System V, it distresses me to see such negative emotion expressed, especially as some of it seems hyperelastic and I believe that such magnified response is grounded upon some sort of un-resolved (personal) issue(s), which appears that it will remain unresolved. Why, I was startin' to get a bit excited about using RBase again, in fact, having last week purchased RBWin2K for a DBMS application in my university department as well as upgrading myself, just today. All the more disconcerting is that the strongest of the commentary comes from an RBase representative.
Nevertheless, if this fella', McGrath, and I recall his name from wayback, has done something illegal, prosecute him. If his comments are simply 90% negative - I'd like to see the objective data, BTW - then, as my wife likes to say about problem clients, and correctly so, "Kill 'em with kindness". That we list subscribers don't know what happened is irrelevant to us ; to use what "happened" as a defense is therefore meaningless. To hyper-react, especially invoking a form of "executive privilege" doesn't, IMO, reflect at all well on RBTI. Regardless, democracy ain't the issue, it's interpersonal, organizational, and business relations. If Mr. McGrath took shots at RBTI, these should be unwrapped from their presentation in order to assess the quality/merit of their content. If such criticisms have merit, then they should be considered. If the message is delivered with salt and vinegar, then that must simply be recognized as a professional fault. In either case, they should be addressed in an intelligent, reflective, courteous, and professional manner. If comments are deemed, based on their content rather than their delivery, meritless, then there should be a response, brief, but not dismissive. If Mr. McGrath offended someone personally, that is not the concern of RBTI, but rather that individual. My wife also tells me, and, again, she is right, "Perception is reality." Each of us has the power to help create that reality, the one whereby others perceive us. I'd sure like to perceive RBTI as wholly professional, as that is with whom I am spending my money, rather than with Mr. McGrath. Well, it's just a thought.
