I have worked with Scott using VB with both R:Base and Access. There are some things that just cannot be done in R:Base. I have a client that wanted a full sized monthly Calendar with their scheduling activities changing colors and doing all sorts of other things on the fly. There are probably 100 buttons and 400 fields on one page. There is only ONE form and it gets changed completely every time they change to a new month or a new schedule.
I have recreated several Access programs using a VB front end and Access back end. The performance and reliability went up 10 fold just by not using the Access front end. I hope to switch the back end to R:Base as soon as possible. I have to agree that Access is a dog, but that is what the client wanted. At least I have my foot in the door and will hopefully be able to convert them to R:Base one day. VB is fast and the tools Scott has developed for it make rapid application a reality. You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to get started. He has much to offer if anyone wants to expand their skills. I am glad I learned from him and have his tools available. I am a much more versatile programmer for it. >about it. I just wondered if anyone has any >idea about why people don't want to post >here about it? Remember the purpose of an email list is to both learn from and help each other. I realize there have been some bad communications lately. Some have been intentional and some not. In the end, everyone is evaluated based on their contributions. I think we are best off just ignoring these transgressions and moving on. Responses just fuel the flame and do not serve the purpose as stated above. There will always be some criticism of R:Base, Microsoft, VB, and every person and organization on this planet. Nobody, no software, and no organization is perfect. I hope that we can just forgive and get on with helping each other. I don't want to lose anybodys valuable input and I certainly do not want to get into political maneuvering or political correctness. Let us all try to be nice or at least civil to each other in our interactions on the list. I also hope that constructive criticism and help offered is accepted and tolerated by all and that nobody fears reprisals for expressing themselves or making a mistake. What mistake can be made on a post to this list that could be put in the category of "earth shattering" anyway? I guarantee that we will all survive any post made! Don't forget that it is these posts help us not only to survive but also thrive! Best regards, Mike Young On Mon, 11 Mar 2002 18:40:14 -0800, Scott Salisbury wrote: >I'd like to ask a question.
