I was going through this and I see the problem.

You have the col name in your view the same as the col name in the table.  
It shouldn't let you build the view.  You can't have columns in R:base with 
the same name that are different types.

Change your view to this:
CREATE TEMPORARY VIEW tempv (col1Float) AS SELECT (FLOAT(col1)) FROM temp
