Sami, How eloquently put.
Thank you for the effort you put forth to make the conference such a resounding success. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the conference, although I just couldn't make the end of that 2:45 am session no matter how hard I tried. I think my brain shut down somewhere around 12:30 am. I especially enjoyed meeting the faces behind the names on the enormously valuable R-List. Looking forward to next years conference and the release of the "Magical R:Base 7.0". Richard A. It included over 20 hours of technical sessions, 10 outside presenters and the entire Dream Team from Japan, Seattle and Pittsburgh. We had attendees and presenters from 27 States, Canada, the U.K., Germany, Australia and Byelorussia. The SWORBUG boys (Tommy & the SWORBUGS!) gave another touching ... er ... I mean ... tasteful ... er I mean ... rockin' rendition of the all-time great song "Dream, Dream, Dream" in honor of Razzak's favorite phrase, "If you can Dream it, you can Do it!". (For those not in the know, SWORBUG is short for Southwest Ohio R:BASE Users Group, whose members provide us with the musical/comedy portion of the Formal Dinner.) Pre-dinner piano music was provided by developer, Randy Peterson. The attending members of the R:BASE Developers Community presented to Razzak a special thank-you award: a beautifully engraved crystal plaque, in appreciation of his dauntless commitment to us and our clients. Spearheaded by Richard Croy, the award was presented by Bill Downall who expressed the sentiments all of us feel about Dr. R:. Razzak's newest phrase is "Wouldn't it be nice ...???" after which he'd make note that most of our enhancement requests are ALREADY a part of R:BASE 7.0! Sounds like another Beach Boys song is due up next year! The R:BASE Developer of the Year award was presented to Harlan Haynie, Portland Oregon. Congratulations, Harlan - well deserved! And thanks for AFTER INSERT Triggers! Thanks to most attendees, and especially to some very generous souls (and you know who you are!), donations to Project Bundle-Up totaled $1,500 in just four days. RBTI will match this amount for a total contribution to this worthy charity for $3,000!!!! Donations were required for all DUH! moments, shameless ads, mention of sports teams, politics and religion. It was a fun way to do something to help others! Thanks to Damon Kaufman for handling all the donations. The "pice de rsistance" was the presentation of the Magical R:BASE version 7.0. Razzak and the development team from Beacon Systems (Japan) and the RBTI staff, spearheaded by R:BASE's founder Wayne Erickson, have produced an all new look and feel to the same old R:BASE we all know and love. It's a true GUI environment with features that will knock the socks off programmers in every other language out there. The Midnight Session, which focused on all the new features of R:BASE 7.0, lasted till 2:45am. Many thanks to Manuel de Aguiar for making sure we were well-fed and caffeinated! All informal R:Clinic sessions were well attended - some were one-on-one with a developer who had experience in a specific area of R:BASE development, and some were open sessions like "Converting from DOS to Windows" lead by David Blocker, Bill Downall and myself, and "Issues with Security on VPNs and R:Tango", lead by Troy Sosamon, Steve Sweeney, Neil Smith, Suzy Smith and others. Sophie and Phil Wade from With Enterprise, Australia (makers of WiTango) graciously presented a session on using R:Tango - and donated full copies of WiTango for raffle and to the highest donor to Project Bundle-Up. Beacon Systems provided a beautiful R:BASE mug to each attendee and with the full bag of goodies RBTI provided - it was hard to find a place to pack everything to bring home! All in all, it was an opportunity for R:BASE users and developers to connect face to face in an R:BASE arena focused on learning, sharing information and camaraderie. It was an honor to have been a part of it all. See you all next year!
