First, Marnie's presentation is about 55 pages long, very detailed.  Too bad you weren't there.  I think it's too long to e-mail or fax.  I can get it copied and mailed to you today or tomorrow.  It'll probably cost $5 to $10 to copy at the library and mail.  Let me know if you want a copy.

Visio Pro you can find at your CompUSA.  Visio was bought out by Micrsoft a couple of years ago.  If I remember right it costs over $200.  Be sure to get the Professional Version because the other versions don't do database analysis.

Now that I've thought about this some more, I remember that we did the FoxPro analysis by connecting to the individual FoxPro tables in R:Base and projecting R:Base tables from them.  We would have lost any relationship information if there were any, and Larry's response says there isn't except in code.  So I suppose this won't do what you wanted.

However, it is a very useful tool.  I've used it on several old R:Base databases by updating them to a version of R:Base that does ODBC temporarily just to get the schema diagram.  I've had less luck analyzing an Access database as I couldn't seem to get the relationships.  That was probably because the Access 2000 database was newer than my copy of Visio (5.0c from 1998) that I am using.  I'll have to reinstall my Visio 2000 and see if I can get it to work better this time.

How can I see Marnie's notes, I didn't attend in 1999.
Where can I find Visio Pro?

Hi Bernie,

Marnie Moore gave a presentation at the 1999 Developers' Conference entitled "How to Reverse Engineer a FoxPro Schema."  This technique uses Visio Professional to diagram the schema including the relationships

Subject: need help with foxbase

I'm going to see a prospect that just lost his programmer and can't find any more foxy programmers.
He has the dos version of foxbase or foxpro.

I know that rbase can read those files.  I also know that each table is a separate .dbf file.

But how do you get to see the relationships between the tables and where are the forms and reports located and how do I get into the program.

I don't need a course in fox, just enuff to look at the program.  Naturally, my goal is to get him to move into rbase, so I would appreciate any help I can get.
