Bernard, if it's a DBF file, I just use RBase, from the R>,
Utilities|Attach DBase File. I'd advise creating a small RB1 rather than
using an existing one as you'd likely find Field Name and/or Data Type conflicts
when you attach. Even without these issues, I also find that the DBF file
has a Field Name which is a RESERVED WORD in RBase. I have to work w/DBF
files regularly and this approach hasn't been a problem.
Also, after I attach the DBF, I typically take a quick look at it, then,
when I'm satisfied, I COPY the (DBF) TABLE to an RBase TABLE by way of OBJECT
MANAGER. And, unless I am mistaken, DBF, in any form, unlike RBase,
doesn't prevent database NAME-MANGLING, that is 2 different fields with the same
name, but different data types. You might want to be careful about certain
data types as well as DATE/TIME FORMATS, SETTINGS, etc.
Now, none of this will (explicitly) give the data model f/this Foxbase
system, but you'll probably be able to ferret out some of the RELATIONSHIPS as
you examine the ENTITIES and the DATA.
(I
hope my capitalization doesn't bother you.)
Tch,
Steve
