Steve,
   I backup the live database every day here... The Server is running 
windows 2000 Pro, and has no trouble allowing me to copy the database 
live.  My Technicians can hook up  a laptop and do a simple xcopy32.exe 
with the appropriate switches and copy the database to their laptops and go.
   I also copy to a local hard drive multiple times a day in case of HD 
corruption. Once copied to a local drive on my machine, I then FTP the 
database every day all automatically.
   I have heard people on the list say you need other programs to do all 
this, but so far I can't figure out why.  If you want advice on the 
switches for xcopy32 or ftp'ing, let me know.
