I don't see why you have
"and MoveInDte = MoveInDte"
in your expression.   Please provide more data on the relationship
of the columns including the tables from which you are trying to
extract the looked up values.

If this expression is in a command file and Unit is a variable
then try this.   Rename the variable to vUnit (never call a
variable the same name as a column).

SELECT MoveInDte INTO +
   vDate IND vi1 +
   FROM Tenants +
   WHERE Unit = .vUnit
