I have not used the Rmail program so I am guessing here, but you might want to try embedding the HTML codes in your message. I am going to replace the open angle bracket < with an open square bracket, so it does not mess up this message when I send it. Try this:
write 'My name is [b>', .vname, '[/b>' The b tag in angled brackets is the html tag for bold. You would need to use the font tag to change colors.
