I thought the enclosed snippet (link to
the story enclosed) very interesting to anyone that works with databases. I
wonder how long before Razzak’s team comes up with a similar feature. IBM tests 'self healing' database software IBM is taking aim at Oracle with a new version of
its DB2 database management software that can anticipate
problems and give database administrators advice on how to
fix them. Version 8 of DB2 includes a Health Center feature
that continually monitors the health of the database and
can automatically send out notifications to
administrators. Missing from the new version is Xperanto, a database
access technology that would allow businesses to have all
types of data -- such as XML documents and spreadsheets --
