Actually, you won't be able to pass the contents of the textfile back and forth directly in the UDF because of its' 1500 char limit (1499 plus null terminator) unless the files are quite small.  You could, at best, use the UDF to designate the filename with a switch for encrypt or decrypt.  In this scenario, a VBScript would work nicely and could be called simply from ZIP or Launch....     ----- Original Message ----- From: Rob Vincent To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Friday, August 09, 2002 8:54 PM Subject: Re: Encryption Thanks for the advise on the different methods you guys would use to encrypt a text file (from within R:base).   I have decided to write a C++ routine external to Rbase and call it using a UDF.   Thanks again!   - Rob Vincent
