From The Edge: Understanding Pass Setting Property of Report Designer
Section: Report Designer
Chapter: Running R:BASE Your Way!
Platform: R:BASE 7.0 for Windows
Build: 1.855xRT03 and Higher

The value of "Pass Setting" property in R:BASE 7.0 Report Designer
determines how many times a report traverses the data before generating
pages.

The following two options are provided:

One Pass:
The report generates the requested pages during the first traversal of the data.

Two Pass:
In the first pass the report traverses the data, calculating pagination. Then in
the second pass the report returns to the beginning of the data and traverses
the data again generating the requested pages.

Two Pass setting is important when displaying summary calculations in
Report Header band, summary calculations in the Page Header band and
Break Footer calculations in the Break Header band.

Notes:

LookAhead property for DBCalc (Count, Sum, Minimum, Maximum, Average)
variable should be set to True.

LookAhead is designed to allow you to display summary calculations in the
Report Header band, Page Footer calculations in the Page Header band and
Break Footer calculations in the Break Header band. When the LookAhead
property is set to True, the draw command which represents the component
on the rendered page will continue to update with the most recent calculation
value until the report completes the generation of the associated page or
break.

The Report Pass Setting property must be set to Two Pass, in order for
LookAhead calculations to function reliably.
