You should name things according to the most restrictive program that 
may be used to access those things. The SQL standard says that 
allowable characters in names of identifiers are characters, digits, and 
the underscore character. Some other program adhering to a stricter 
naming standard than R:Base may want to look at the data through 
the ODBC driver, and may not recognize the column name.

Some people like to avoid the underscore character because it is also 
the SQL "wild card" character for a single character, and can cause 
confusion in "LIST COLUMN columnspecification"  or "CLEAR VAR 
varspecification" commands.
