Mike:
First, the problem I have, happens under Windows 98SE. Second, sometimes I
need to use a mono spaced font (COUIER NEW, all characters are the same
width) as the report requires that text be aligned (in proportional fonts
the letter "i" takes less space than the letter "m"). When you have reports
that display a lot of data, the font size is critical, i.e. to small (size
6) is hard to read, too large (size 8) and all the variables do not fit in
the page. Most business clients want reports printed on standard size paper
(8.5 x 11) and thus you have 2 option, portrait and landscape; in short, the
font size is very critical.
I appreciate all the work that tech support puts into the product, with
other products, I would not even have a chance to report a bug, let alone
get answers directly.

Subject: RE: Limit to LISTOF Function?

Dear Javier;

Please note that this issue has no correlation with the original question
about the undocumented use of the LISTOF function.

The font issue is a whole different situation that arises with certain
combinations of font styles and pitches, and can vary from machine to
machine depending on your printer and installed fonts. It is also, at
least in our testing, specific to Windows 2000 and XP.

We do our best to resolve any reported problem, and have resolved
several font related issues since the inception of 6.5++ and Windows
2000/XP.

A reasonable, and very simple work-around to the problem is to bump
the pitch up or down one, or change the font style. I have never seen
a situation that mandated a specific font style and pitch. This is the
most flexible of all the design properties because many font styles look
so similar that they cannot be distinguished from each other.

In closing, I hope everyone understands that we do not simply "dismiss"
reported problems. However, we do need to prioritize according to how
detrimental a problem is to the functionality and stability of the product.
With more important problems to fix, and such an easy way around the
problem, we put this on the back burner.

I sincerely hope that everyone can appreciate our efforts and reasoning
when it comes to fixing problems.

Best Regards.

Mike
