Thanks, Ron, I've done some tests to see what happens:

With Bill Eyring's suggestion in mind I set up a command file to edit 10
rows using the form that uses this EEP via TRACE. Nothing fancy, just 10
consecutive rows ordered by idnum.

Whether I use the dotted variable or the variable on its own
(.vCursorhold_P1
or vCursorhold_P1) whenever I click on the button in rows 2 to 10 the form
returns to the first row and the value of vCursorhold_P1 remains unchanged
as a tilde which is how it is defined as a text variable.

There definitely is a previous table with the variable in it. The button is
in the second table. I've tried a NEXTROW/PREVROW combination but that
doesn't solve it either and IT USED TO WORK!!!
