Kyle:
I store expressions in fields but they will not automatically execute as a
calculated field would. You will have to set a variable equal to the
expression and then run it from an application or the R> prompt.
For example, you can set a field on a table to a command such as:
   SELECT COUNT your_field INTO temp_var FROM your_file WHERE ...
Then, from your application you set the value of the column to a variable:
      SET VAR my_command = your_field IN your_file WHERE ...
Finally, run the command:
       &my_command
The stored command will be executed and the selected count will be stored in
the variable temp_var. You can use this approach to store and execute any
command (such as running a form, or printing a report) or executable file,
from within an application. This is particularly helpful when used to store
menu options and their corresponding executable commands. I hope this helps.

Subject: Expressions in tables - Win V6.5++

Could one of you rbase gurus help me??

Can a field in a table be set to an expression based on the following:

Sum of a field plus sum of another field from another table

For example:

Totest.Worder = sum(labest.craft) + sum(matest.craft)

TIA, Kyle.
