You can import fixed field files.  I do this on 60 tables a day.  Use the
following syntax:

LOAD tempgrad FROM gradev.prd AS FORMATTED USING +
grade        1  4, +
aisi         5 14, +
grade_group 15 15, +
scrap_as    16 19, +
pc_app      44 46, +
grade_type  47 47, +
melt_code   48 54

where, for instance, grade 1 4 means to import the first through the fourth
character from the gradev.prd file.

In Rbase DOS, it is possible to import text data as fixed position. This
does not appear possible in Windows. Because on imbedded special
