Dick & All,
I've been lurking for some time, but I have not had a problem with the
F3 key in the current DOS version running on XP or any real problem in
XP after I created two "Custom MS-DOS initialization files:"
Some might not know that
AUTOEXEC.BAT
and
CONFIG.SYS
are NOT used to initialize the MS-DOS environment in XP.
However
AUTOEXEC.NT
and
CONFIG.NT
ARE USED to initialize the MS-DOS environment in XP
unless different startup files are specified in an application's PIF.
The "Custom MS-DOS initialization files:" are found in the
Properties section of the desktop shortcut to "Your Application" under
Program
Advanced
Windows PIF settings
I chose to COPY the canned XP supplied versions, then modify and name
them:
%SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\AutoRBASE.NT
%SystemRoot%\SYSTEM32\ConfigRB.NT
EXAMPLES:
AutoRBASE.NT was copied from AUTOEXEC.NT and modified to contain
A PATH statement
And two SET statements:
PATH C:\RBTI\RBDOS65
SET TEMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
SET TMP=C:\WINDOWS\TEMP
======================
ConfigRB.NT was copied from CONFIG.NT and modified to contain the added
lines:
files=60
buffers=60
======================
I too have registered for the Reno training.
Ned
